The City of West Torrens in South Australia is excited to join the CitiesWithNature initiative as a Pioneer Council. We recognise the health and well-being benefits gained by spending time in nature, particularly for those living in higher density areas, and so maintaining access to nature and green open spaces in our urban environment is paramount.

The River Torrens flows through the City of West Torrens. Its natural landscape and biodiversity provides a wonderful setting for people visiting the River Torrens Linear Park. Council has been active in re-vegetating the river bank and hosts community planting events each year, has created native bee 'hotels', and also set up several nature play spaces for families to enjoy.
Mellor Park is highly valued by the community as a place for recreation and relaxation. Mature trees are an outstanding feature of the park.
Council has established many raingardens along streets in West Torrens. The raingardens are designed to capture and filter stormwater runoff, whilst providing a source of water for growing road-side vegetation. An online interactive trail to learn more about raingardens is on Council's website.
