CitiesWithNature is a global program designed and offered by ICLEI and partners to cities and their communities. It consists of two main platforms through which they can participate, namely an Engagement Platform (levels 1 and 2) and a Technical Platform (level 3).
The Technical Platform underpinning CitiesWithNature is a technical support component. It will be demand-driven, shaped and delivered by ICLEI regional and country offices, in collaboration with partners, to suit different local contexts.
This component will provide access to technical toolkits, technical experts and research around the topics of the value of nature in cities, its incorporation into city decision-making and other mainstreaming mechanisms. Technical support will be delivered through a range of tools, processes and engagements with cities, individually or as groups, and can be tailor-made to suit the needs of a particular city or group of cities.
This technical support is additional to a set of generic and globally available theme-based guidelines which would become available either for free wherever possible or at set costs, depending on the resource.
ICLEI will primarily use its CitiesWithNature Methodology which is designed based on over 25 years of experience in providing hands-on technical support to local governments, and on its pioneering Local Action for Biodiversity (LAB) program and other such initiatives in the field of climate change, resilience and other urban development focus areas. In addition to this, complementary tailor-made support packages may be offered by the various CitiesWithNature partners for individual cities or groups of cities, based on local demand and specific themes.
